Have you been thinking of joining a civic organization but are unsure where to start?
Join the Chambersburg Area Civitan this Monday (September 17, 2018) to learn about the great things that Civitan is doing in our community. No obligation, just a relaxed lunch where we talk about the positive ways we can be a part of our community.
What is Civitan?
Civitan International found its origin back in the early 1900's. During this turbulent period in history, it became apparent that there was a need for clubs to organize communities into groups that would focus on good citizenship. In 1917, the first Civitan Club was established in Birmingham, Alabama.
In the 1950's a Civitan Club was established locally in Chambersburg, PA. Then in 1957, The Chambersburg Civitan Club was very instrumental in establishing Occupational Services, Inc. to provide vocational training services to individuals with intellectual diabilities and severe mental health concerns.
What does Civitan do in OUR community?
Today the Chambersburg Area Civitan is involved in an array of service projects that support a variety of local causes. Each year the club partners with Occupational Services, Inc. to help support and plan OSI's yearly golf tournament. This is the club's largest annual project, and in 2017 was able to raise over $15,000 to provide support for OSI's programs and services. There are a variety of programs and events that the Chambersburg Club is involved with each year, including the Franklin County Fair Chicken House Fundraiser, ARC Socials, and locally placed Candy Boxes.
The Chambersburg Area Civitan meets the 1st and 3rd Monday's of the month at Perkins Restaurant in Chambersburg, PA. For more information, contact Chambersburg Area Civitan Club President, Michelle Lane, at 717-263-9293 x238.
